A little about my Book Promo
On our Journey as writers, marketing is always an issue. I would like to talk about my book promo this week. I recently came across a promo of Christine Tabaka that Alan Johnson had produced. It touched my heart the way he had made the video so personal to express the love behind the words. So naturally I approached him about doing one for me.
The promo touched the heart of this poet immensely! It was so much more than a promo it was a tribute to family members I love.
I came from a large family having six brothers and two sisters. We have always been a close family especially us girls. I remember all the talks we had growing up from which boy we had a crush on to who’s doing the dishes. Yes, I remember those water fights we had in the kitchen always in a hurry to mop up the floor before our parents arrived home.
I came from a dysfunctional family growing up but today I realize most families are in one way or another. Which leads me to my writing.
I’ve always used writing as an expression of myself and my emotions.
I started writing fluently at the age of twelve. Through the years I didn’t show my poetry to family members. It wasn’t until my mother was on her deathbed in the hospital. I offered to bring her up ten of my Spiritual poems to read. My Aunt Edna read them to her and the very next day she was asking to hear more. Wow, mom liked my poetry. That touched my heart to know that she found comfort in them.
When mom passed my dad asked me to write a poem for the obituary. I was expected to read it. I could not and my Aunt Edna said she would. About two weeks after mom passed, I was sitting at the dining room table with dad at the farmhouse, we called home. He said I should publish a book of my poems. I told him I was thinking about it.
That’s when I realized dad liked my poetry and he was proud of me. I had their support all along and didn’t realize it. My only regret is they weren’t alive to see my first book published. I dedicated my first two books to them, Dancing in Heaven and Where Poets Dream.
My fourth poetry book, The Airways of My Soul, I dedicated to my two oldest brothers Jerry and Bobby. They have passed on as well to soon to leave this earth and so close to grieving
my parents. No one knows how many years we have on this earth; we are on borrowed time. We grew up, side by side working and playing hiding seek and captain, may I? I wouldn’t change the happy memories for the world. So, in memory of them and honor I dedicated my fourth book to them.
Having had no children of my own my sister Darcy understood the sense of loss and pain. She allowed me too to be the aunt I needed to be, and I often spent time with my niece Rainbow and Nephew Scott. She was like my very own little girl. Others spent time with me as well. My fifth book of poetry, In THE Garden of My Mind, I dedicated to all my nieces and nephews.
As I said I come from a large family, but I choose these few to be in my video promo to celebrate my love for the art and in memory of those who have passed. I couldn’t include everyone in my family that I love dearly and care about.
This video is incredibly special to me as it captures my heart and honors those I love. I sent Allan family pictures but, in the end, we could only pick a few. So many more members have touched my heart and my life. I have special memories with all of them.

BIO: Eva was born in 1958 to Frank and Priscilla Cagley. Having been raised in Waterloo Iowa, U.S. She spent most of my time working with teenagers as a counselor. Working with teenagers gave her great joy, having had none of her own… She came from a large family having nine children. She has always had a passion for writing and believes it is a gift from God… There's little else to say about her as her writing reflects whom she is. Her beliefs, perspectives, trials, and tribulations hope and despair, dreams of all her lives’ journeys…She currently has five poetry books published and a Miracle story.
